Q and A: fund manager Richard Hallett

This week, for my latest Q and A, I returned to talk to a fund manager whose multi-cap equity fund has the distinction, according to research by FE Trustnet, of having outperformed its benchmark in every single rolling five year period since 2000 - one of only two funds out of several hundred in the UK All Companies sector to have done so. It is true that you don’t necessarily want a fund to have as its aim consistent outperformance in every single period, as greater volatility might produce a higher absolute performance over time, but nevertheless the achievement of having done so over such a long period speaks volumes about the discipline and effectiveness of Richard Hallett's investment process.
